Melvin Norris is the Vice President of Government Affairs at The Durst Organization where he leads government relations by steering engagements across federal, state, and local levels. With over two decades of experience, his strategic acumen has guided the organization to achieve its goals.
He is a seasoned professional whose career includes serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Charles B. Rangel and influential positions in New York State government, Verizon Communications, and The Business Council of New York State. At the Harlem Community Development Corporation, he introduced the THINK program which offered comprehensive aid to small businesses. At Verizon, he drove Fios deployment in New York by securing legislative support. As Senior Director of Government Affairs for The Business Council, his advocacy resulted in several bills being signed into law focused on construction, transportation, and economic development.
Recognized in City Hall Newspaper’s 40 Under 40, Melvin is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, 100 Black Men of New York, and a Director of the Westchester County Local Development Corporation. He is a graduate of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
