Bespoke neighborhood bar created by locals, for locals offers a world-class whiskey program, cocktails and small plates
NEW YORK, NY (December 16, 2024) – Peck Slip Social, a whiskey-forward bar and social space featuring craft cocktails and live music, has opened its doors at The Durst Organization’s Historic Front Street. Located at 36 Peck Slip at the corner of Front Street, the 2,100-square-foot bar offers more than 100 whiskeys, a curated drinks menu, small plates, and a vibrant live music program within the South Street Seaport Historic District.
“Historic Front Street is home to a vibrant residential community. We’re gratified to see long-time members of the community bring their vision for a local social club to life in a space that offers a unique, welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike,” said Jody Durst, President of The Durst Organization.
Co-founded by longtime Seaport residents and partners Alex Davis and Learan Kahanov, Peck Slip Social was created “by locals, for locals.” Kahanov has lived in Lower Manhattan for 25 years and co-founded the annual Taste of the Seaport. Davis grew up and still lives on Beekman Street.
“Peck Slip Social is all about creating a place where friends and neighbors can gather over great drinks and enjoy the vibrant energy of the Seaport,” Davis said. “We’re excited to welcome everyone, whether you’re a whiskey aficionado or someone just looking to have fun amongst great drinks, music, and company.”
The lounge’s design includes a 24-foot-long bar and two distinct areas. One features a small stage for live music and communal seating, while the other offers a pool table, board games, and relaxed sofa seating. Kahanov curated the space with a 200-year-old standup piano and plans for weekly jazz nights, brunch events, and performances by singer-songwriters.
“We’ve always dreamed of opening a bar that captures the spirit of this community,” Kahanov added. “This neighborhood means so much to both of us, and we’re thrilled to share it with others in such an exciting and beautiful space.”
Signature drinks, named after friends and family of the founders, include the Morgan, a combination of High West Double Rye, lemon juice, honey, egg white, cherry cacao bitters, and brandied cherries; the Moti - Hibiki whiskey, agave, blood orange juice, soda, Japanese chili-lime bitters, and jalapeño; and the Laura, a cocktail with Redemption Rye, Creole and Peychaud’s bitters, absinthe, orange, and star anise. Peck Slip Social exclusively offers Misguided Spirits for its well offerings, a brand created by bartenders for bartenders.
The menu, developed in partnership with Kahanov and Chef Taylor Miller (formerly of Ichiran, Perry St. and Tin Building by Jean-Georges), reflects Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian influences with offerings like house made hummus based on Kahanov’s family recipe, mushroom shawarma, Korean fried schnitzel, BEK fried rice with applewood-smoked bacon, egg, and house-made kimchi, falafel-crusted salmon bites, and skewers of lamb, mushroom, or chicken.
Peck Slip Social is open 3 PM – 12 AM Mondays through Thursdays, 3 PM – 1 AM Fridays, 12 PM – 1 AM on Saturdays, and 12 PM – 11 PM on Sundays. Live musical performances and brunch will begin in January.
Historic Front Street is a renowned redevelopment project. The Durst Organization preserved 11 landmarked buildings while introducing three newly constructed ones, spanning almost an entire city block on Front Street. The site features 95 residential units and 14 retail spaces at street level. The renovation and revitalization of this area honor the district's historical charm, scale, and character.
Peck Slip Social joins a diverse mix of retail tenants within Historic Front Street including the recently opened Hercules Mulligan taproom, a bespoke cocktail brand named after the tailor and unsung hero of the American Revolution. Others include Il Brigante, SUteiShi, The Dermatology Specialists, and Seaport Paw.
The Durst Organization was represented in-house by Karen Rose and by Lee & Associates NYC’s JP Sutro, Brad Schwarz, and Olivia Hwang. Alan Stenson of Brax Realty represented Peck Slip Social.
