New Developments

With a long history of real estate development focused on the future, The Durst Organization continues to lead the way in smart, sustainable development in Manhattan and beyond. Here are some of our current and upcoming projects; please contact us for further information.

West 57th Street

Durst Fetner Residential (DFR) has announced the design of West 57, a 600-unit 80/20 residential building on West 57th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues. The building is designed by renowned Danish Architect firm BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group and is their in augural North American project. The building’s program consists of more than 600 residential units of different scales situated on a podium with a cultural and commercial program. The building will strive for LEED Gold Certification.

The building is a hybrid between the European perimeter block and a traditional Manhattan high-rise. West 57th has a unique shape which combines the advantages of both: the compactness and efficiency of a courtyard building providing density, a sense of intimacy and security, with the airiness and the expansive views of a skyscraper. By keeping three corners of the block low and lifting the north-east corner up towards its 467 ft peak, the courtyard opens views towards the Hudson River, bringing low western sun deep into the block and graciously preserving the adjacent Helena Tower’s views of the river.

1212 Fifth Avenue

Durst Fetner Residential is converting a prewar rental building at 102nd Street and Fifth Avenue into one of New York’s most beautiful and exciting condo projects. The top-to-bottom renovation will create 58 luxury condos with the amenities and services of new construction and the style and grandeur of a prewar Fifth Avenue building.

In addition, Durst Fetner Residential is serving as the fee developer for Mount Sinai hospital’s construction of a 214-unit, 80/20 residential building on East 102nd Street.

The New School

The Durst Organization is the developer for The New School’s University Center at 65 Fifth Avenue. The SOM-designed building will house seven floors of academic and classroom space, including a large auditorium, and will be topped off with nine dormitory floors of efficiency apartments totaling 600 beds. The building will seek LEED certification.

Carvel

The Durst Organization is developing a 2,300-acre site in the towns of Pine Plains and Milan in northern Dutchess County as a sustainable second-home and recreational community.
